This module is essential as it introduces students to the world of journalism and journalist as a profession. Students will look into the theories of journalism and how it can be used in digital media.

This unit introduces students to the changing relationships between media, telecommunications and computing industries. It will provide the knowledge of an understanding in the key developments in traditional media together with awareness of the social and political implications of communicating in the electronic age. The unit is divided into two general components. Briefly, the Industries Phase describes the development of technologies for the electronic age, considering how these technologies are affected by the forces of change, and introduces issues for further exploration.


Adobe Flash is a multimedia authoring application capable of producing animations, presentations and fully interactive movies. However, this course will be focused towards the production of interactive CD ROMS. A prior knowledge of a graphics application (Photoshop) and video editing application (Final Cut Pro or Premiere) would be useful. This course will include:

1.  Animation

2.  Sound and Interactivity

3.  Creating Flash Movie

4.  Basic multimedia Scripting


This course exposes students to the developing media culture and the new economy. Aspects of the role of communicators and how they play a role in the developing nation is crucial, and to understand its limitations and contributions to society.
