This course is designed to outline basic principles and theoretical framework of financial management, leading to sound corporate financial management decisions. The course deals with financial markets, interest rates, return and risk in investments, bond and stock valuation, cost of capital and capital budgeting, with a look at key financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statements and cash flow statements. Also examined are the various financial ratios and the type of information that they convey to us with regard to the financial health of a business and the process of looking ahead and anticipating the future. Students are expected to attain a clear and basic understanding of the essentials of financial decision making. Emphasis is laid on the underlying principles of corporate finance and their associations with the decision‑making framework faced by a financial manager who is charged with maximizing shareholders’ wealth.
